Policy Integration

Objective

The European Citizens? Consultations, their dialogue events and follow-up process, aim at inspiring European and national policy-makers as they prepare to make decisions on the next phase of Europe?s development.

To make this happen, the national partners actively reach out to major political players at every stage of the project with the objective to broaden the base of support and seek a strong policy integration. <//font>

Activities

Activities include the involvement of representatives of the European Commission, Parliament, and Council as well as national policy-makers in both national and European-level events. Many of them have attended the events, listened to the discussions, spoke to citizens about their experience and their concerns and received their results and reports.

With the conclusion of the European and national consultations a comprehensive dissemination and follow-up process was kicked off.

Substantial resources and creativity have been devoted to reach out to European and national media and stakeholders in order to ensure the effective dissemination of the consultations? results. Activities include the documentation of participants' personal stories, press briefings and conferences, dissemination to policy-makers, ambassadors, representations of the EU institutions in the Member States etc.

Follow-up events include two debates at European level that aim at discussing the policy-impact of the result and the implications of citizen participation. Various national follow-up activities communicate the results of the consultations to policy-makers, NGOs, media and the wider public and deepen the results in debates, conferences and seminars.

Timing

The "European Citizens' Perspectives on the Future of Europe" have been finalised in a period of active debates about the future of the Treaty Establishing a Constitution for Europe and ahead of the European Council Summit on the 21st and 22nd of June 2007.
